Afghans protest against NATO troops

Thousands of protesters took the streets in the Afghan city of Jalalabad on Tuesday 6th March to demand an immediate withdrawal of the US and NATO troops, recently responsible for the killing of 25 Afghan civilians.

The media in this capital quoted angry demonstrators as shouting "death to the coalition" and waving flags and banners demanding the withdrawal of the occupation troops from Afghanistan.

At least 2,000 people blocked the highway between Jalalabad and Kabul, an important commercial route from Nangarhar to Pakistan.

Demonstrators also demanded severe actions from the Kabul administration against those US soldiers responsible for the massacre.

At least 16 civilians were killed on Sunday when US marines opened fire against the Jalalabad population, after their convoy was targeted by a suicide bomb.

Another nine Afghan civilians, including five women, three children, and a senior citizen were killed on Monday during a NATO air force bombing of their home in Kapisa province, about 49 miles of Kabul.
